Lillith is killed by the hands of Sam Winchester, but at a terrible price. By ignoring his brother’s pleas of stopping the use of his powers, he’s lost himself within the demon inside him. In a last attempt of hope and desperation, Dean uses Ruby’s knife and stabs his brother. It works; the inner demon of Sam’s is destroyed as the knife penetrates his body, leaving him weak and close to death. Trying to ignore the fact he stabbed his baby brother, Dean rushes to get Sam the help he needs.
  
As Sam recovers from his near-death experience, he and Dean start to become the brothers they used to be in the earlier years. Dean starts to trust Sam again, and Sam begins to support Dean in the upcoming battles of the Apocalypse. Seeing as Sam is no use to her anymore, Ruby has fled, and is occasionally seen fighting the good fight in the days to come. Maybe she could be trusted after all…but right now Sam doesn’t care, and tries to regain his brother’s trust from the old days.
  
As the raging war against good and evil begins, the angels are becoming more in contact with the earth. Castiel keeps daily contact with Dean, helping along the path he was pulled from Hell to accomplish. Dean begins to have more faith in his guardian, and Castiel finally begins to also accept Sam as an acquaintance. With both Sam and Castiel’s help, Dean has a chance in defeating Lucifer once and for all. Anna, still coming to terms to having her grace back, helps the Winchesters as much as she can. She still tries to help Castiel with his doubts of orders from above as well, while wondering if she’s doing the right thing by being rebellious.
  
Before Lillith was killed, she managed to break the last seal of the 66, releasing Lucifer from his long-term cell in hell. Now roaming the world as a little boy, Sam and Dean must find this boy and stop him before he gathers a larger army, causing world catastrophe in the world. Along the way they meet new people, both for the good and more for the evil. How can they pick whose on their side and who isn’t? Will they be able to save the world from the worst battle of them all?
